This movie and the series have won the praise of the audience all over the world beyond the traditional fans of the Korean-drama series.
However, the new movie ‘Exhuma’, released this year, has surpassed the record of Train to Busan in the horror genre.
The film released on February 22nd in Korean theaters as ‘Pamya’ is going beyond one record after another.
Even before the release of the movie, photos of Lee Do-hian, with black ink tattooed hands and dressed in white clothes, or sitting on a plane next to Kim Go Eun with headphones in his ears have gone viral.
Exhumer is originally a Korean shaman or witchcraft culture that is still practiced in many parts of Korea. Centers on his team, who try to free the young child of a wealthy Korean-American family from a tormenting curse.
In this context, the mystery of the grave related to the family which is located at the top of a small hill starts to be revealed one by one.
Protagonist Lee Hwa-rim (Kim Go-yoon) introduces the audience to the strange practices of shamanism to the rhythm of his companion Bong-gil’s (Lee Do-hian) loud prayers and songs.
In the end, risking death, they carried the grave in the car and moved to another place. But as the journey unfolds the tomb’s more bizarre and terrifying secrets, the bloodshed begins.
In many ordinary Korean movies, shamans are always seen in white or traditional shaman clothing.
However, Korean netizens have commented that some features of modernization with shaman culture have emerged in this movie.
Interestingly, the director of the film, Jang Jae-Hian, is not as famous as one of Korea’s top directors, Bong Joon-Ho, but this movie by Jang Jae-Hian is surpassing Bong Joon-Ho’s famous movies.
Released in 2016, Train to Busan had the highest audience record of more than 11.5 million. Exhumer surpassed this record within two months of its release.

The film had its international release at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival on February 16 in the Forum section. The movie stars – Choi Min-shik, Kim Go Eun, Lee Do-hian, Yoo Hae-jin and Jeon Jin-ki.
